In celebration of the World IP Day on Friday, 26 April 2013, LES Benelux is pleased to invite you to a free evening event: a cocktail with Mr Jean-Luc Gal as our guest keynote speaker on the latest developments on the unitary patent package, including the latest proceedings initiated by Spain. In this informal and interactive setting, Jean-Luc Gal will share with us his expert views as an officer at European Patent Office and now at the Commission.
This event is free of charge. It is open to LES members and non-members.

Jean-Luc Gal is seconded to the Commission – DG Internal Market – by the European Patent Office. Jean-Luc in is involved in the team in charge of patents and he also deals with the patentability of biotechnological inventions. Previously, Jean-Luc was the Head of the Brussels Bureau of the European Patent Office (EPO Brussels Bureau). His main activity was to liaise with the European Union institutions and the NGOs based in Brussels on all the questions relating to patents (particular EU Patent, biotechnological inventions and computer-implemented inventions) but also in connection with research, innovation and IP cooperation with EU and non EU Countries. Prior to 2000, Mr. Gal was INPI’s administrator for multilateral affairs in the Community and International Law Department. He has also practiced as an attorney at law specialized in business law. Mr. Gal holds the attorney’s diploma of the Paris bar. He is also qualified with a special degree in European law (Brussels) and a master in intellectual property law (Paris). Mr. Gal has written several articles on various issues such as European and community patents, computer-implemented inventions, legal protection of biotechnological inventions within the European Union as well as on biodiversity issues related to patents (CBD).

LES Hungary has finalized the preparation to this ATW event, and there will be a great IP morning forum in Hungary it the great auditorium of the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office (HIPO) on April 26, 2013 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm.
In brief: under the organization of our chapter the event is co-sponsored by the Hungarian Association for Intellectual Property (MIE), the Hungarian Trademar Association and the HIPO.
There will be four presentations:
- MIE presents the latest news concerning the unitary EU patent system and the unitary courts.
- For LES Hungary a complaex licensing and enforcement case study will be presented, finally
- There will be a two part presentation shared between the Hungarian Trademark Association and the HIPO that concerns the latest suggestion of the EU Commission concerning the reform of the Community Trademark System, published very recently.
During the event the introductory greetings will be held by the Vice President of the HIPO, Dr. Mihaly Ficsor.
On the top of this morning event the HIPO will have a special afternoon event to celebrate this day and awards will be given to prominent persons after their IP achievements. This afternoon even is not organized by LES Hungary, we have only been invited to attend and co-celebrate.
LES Italy will celebrate the 2013 IP Day on April 26, LES Italy will be presenting the English translation of the Italian IP Code. All the LES Italy members will receive a hard copy of the Code which may also be downloaded from the web site (www.les-italy.org). The translation of the IP Code will be useful not only for Italian companies working abroad, but also for foreign companies intending to invest in Italy.

LES Japan will hold a Joint Meeting between AIPLA and LES Japan on April 8th as a special event for World IP Day 2013. Please refer to the attached for the agenda of the meeting. We now expect that 26 members of AIPLA and around the same number of LES Japan members will attend the meeting.

LES Philippines will be celebrating the Around the World with LESI by holding a discussion on the new amendments to the IP Code of the Philippines, which amendments took effect on March 22, 2013. The speaker is Atty. Louie Calvario from the Office of the Director General of the IPO-PHL. The event will happen on April 22, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
LES Philippines will be hosting a breakfast forum on the new amendments to the Philippine Intellectual Property Code. We have invited Atty. Louie Calvario of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPO-PHL) as our resource speaker for the said event.
The forum will be held on 22 April 2013 from 8:30-11:00 A.M. at the offices of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham Hall) in Makati City, Philippines. We expect various stakeholders in the Philippine intellectual property scene to attend the same. Attached is the save-the-date announcement on the forum, for your kind reference.

LES Turkey has planned to organize seminar with contribution of Turkish Patent Institute, on April, 2012 as part of LES Around the World Celebration.
Members of LES Turkey Omer Hiziroglu, Murat Idal, Ersin Dereligil & Samir Deliormanli will provide les100 lesson which is designed for those with no prior experience in licensing. It is aimed at: non-licensing professionals about to enter the field; those who are considering a career in licensing; entrepreneurs who need to understand the value of their IP; professors of entrepreneurship; and students interested in learning the basics of Intellectual Property (IP) and how to commercialize IP through licensing.
Who: The seminar is open to LES members and non-members.
Fee: The seminar is free of charge, but the number of participants for LES 100 lesson is limited to 50.
